Grand Strand Season, Ep. 7: The Valet Question
Dear Sir or Madam,
GRAND STRAND SEASON · Episode 7 · Business
Parking is the first thing visitors complain about and the last thing businesses think about. Valet could fix both.
The idea
GrandStrand.app, working with the Spot Check parking team, is exploring a valet service for Myrtle Beach. Two models are on the table:
- Operate it: a GrandStrand-branded valet for restaurants, events and vacation-rental check-ins.
- Book it: start as a booking and referral layer that sends demand to existing local valet operators.
Nothing is decided. This episode works through the question in public.
Why now
- The Grand Strand drew an estimated 18.2 million visitors in 2024, with $13.2 billion in direct visitor spending (Visit Myrtle Beach CVB).
- Resorts already treat valet as standard. Oceanfront properties such as Ocean 22 offer self and valet parking (HGV).
- MYR keeps adding routes (Ep. 6), and summer parking is paid and tight (Ep. 1).
The rules to check
We didn’t find a valet-specific permit ordinance for Myrtle Beach. What clearly applies is the city rule that every business operating in city limits needs an annual business license, plus the 1% hospitality fee where it applies (City FAQ). Valet that uses curb space or the public right-of-way may need separate approval. Anyone launching should call Business License (843-918-1200) and Planning & Zoning (843-918-1179) first, along with an insurance broker about garage-keepers coverage.
Operators: talk to us
If you run valet or hospitality parking on the Grand Strand and want bookings, list your business on GrandStrand.app. The referral model only works with good local partners.
